Trivia Team Names
A good trivia team name is the first thing the host reads out loud, so it is worth a minute of thought. This page has 120 original team names in 8 themes, plus a generator that mixes a fresh combination whenever you are stuck. Scroll through the lists, pick the one that makes your table smile, and change a word or two to fit your group. Every name was written for this page, short enough for an answer sheet and clean enough to be read aloud at a pub quiz, an office quiz or a school fundraiser.

How to pick a good trivia team name
Keep it short. Two to five words is the sweet spot. The host has to read your name out loud, usually more than once, and most answer sheets leave only a small box for it. Long names get shortened or mumbled.
Say it out loud first. If you stumble over it at the table, the host will stumble over it in front of the room. Puns that only work when spelled a certain way, or names stuffed with punctuation, lose their joke once they are spoken.
Make it safe for the host to read. Imagine a stranger, a colleague or a head teacher saying it into a microphone. If that would feel awkward, pick another name. Leave out insults, swearing and jokes at the expense of any group of people.
Match the night. A quiz with a history round suits a history name, and a themed evening often rewards a name that plays along. When you do not know the topics in advance, a general funny or smart name is the safe bet.
Write for the whole room. Quiz crowds are mixed, and a joke about a local league or a national TV show only lands with part of the table. Football, F1, the Olympics, famous films and the periodic table travel well.
Common questions
What makes a good trivia team name?
A good name is short, easy to say out loud, safe for a host to read in front of a whole room, and linked to the topics of the night when there is a theme. The guide on this page covers each point.
Can I use the names on this page for my own team?
Yes. They are free to use as they are, and swapping a word or two so the name suits your group works well too.
How does the team name generator work?
Each theme has two lists of word groups, openings and endings. Generate joins one from each list into a new name and never shows the same name twice in a row, and Any theme draws from every theme at once. The second button puts the current name on your clipboard so you can paste it into a message to your teammates.
How can I practise before quiz night?
